New build case studies

Sowelu

This was the epitome of a custom new build. 'Sowelu's' owner was an experienced sailor and had distilled a lifetime of boat ownership into a well thought out list of requirements. He engaged designer Paul Gartside to draw an 18' gaff rigged dayboat for use on West country estuaries. Fully traditional build of sustainable timbers, the process took four months from design to launch. She is utterly unique!

  1. Lofting involves drawing out the boat full size on the loft floor

2. Challenging clinker planking in larch, kept light to ease handling on a trailer

3. Side decks and coamings compensate for low freeboard (kept minimal to allow the owners dog to get ashore easily).

4. Sustainable native timbers throughout - look stunning.

Sowelu fit out

5. Launched and sailing beautifully.
